Finding Time To Rest

Rest is something we all need. I'm guilty of not taking time to rest. Between the work I do (yet I'm thankful to have a job), appointments, grocery shopping, projects to be completed, the list can go on and on. I'm sure each one of you always has a long list of things that need to get done. In my quest to find time to rest, I thought I would share some ways that have helped along the way:
  • Take five minutes to look out the window, look to the sky. Giving our eyes a break from computer and telephone screens can provide a moment of rest.
  • Delegating things that are on your list can provide some rest.
  • We can find rest in the things we enjoy. A hobby, going for a walk, spending time with family and friends.
  • Plan for times of rest. Write it on your calendar.
  • As you take time to rest, this link will provide Bible Verses On Rest
Let us pray together,
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come to You now, looking for rest. We appreciate that Your Word provides us with verses on rest.
Help us to hold onto the words in Exodus 33:14 "The LORD replied, "My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.".

In the name of Jesus, we pray,
Amen

Extending Grace At The Grocery Store, In Our Relationships, In All That We Do

My list is long as I walk into the grocery store. Many of the items are not available; I have a small amount of frustration. As I continue to walk and move the grocery cart through the isles, someone cuts me off or is standing in the way; they apologize; I say, "it's ok," yet I'm frustrated. Finally, when I'm ready to check out, the line is long, and I have to wait, I get frustrated. As I'm waiting in line, I wonder why these things bring me frustration. Maybe I didn't get enough sleep the night before, or perhaps I'm stressed over something, or maybe I need more patience, or maybe, just maybe, I need to extend grace. In a recent conversation with a group of friends, one of the women said she always says a prayer before she walks into the grocery store to help her from getting frustrated. Hearing this made me realize that I'm not the only one that feels this frustration.

Extending grace is essential in our relationships with family, friends, coworkers, and yes, even at the grocery store. We may wonder, how can we extend grace? I'm sharing some thoughts and Bible verses that can help us along the way as we extend grace:

  • Prayer-just as my friend said, she prays before she walks into the grocery store, we can pray for God to help us with extending grace. "The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen" 1 Thessalonians 5:28
  • Forgiveness-when someone has done something or said something to us: it can be challenging to practice forgiveness. I struggle with this as well. God, by His example, has extended forgiveness to us. "Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you." Ephesians 4:31-32
  • Practice kindness-simple acts of kindness-holding the door for others, calling someone you haven't talked to for a while, donating clothes, these are all positive things that can bring a blessing to others. Maybe you have some ideas as well."Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor;" -Romans 12:10
  • Positive words-the words we say to others can be helpful or hurtful. "May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer." Psalm 19:14
Let us pray together,
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come to You now and ask for Your help to extend grace to others as You extend grace to us.
We thank You for the love that You have for us.

In the name of Jesus, we pray,
Amen

Patty

Seeking Joy-A Lifetime Journey

Seeking joy is something that is a lifetime journey. When there is grief, stress, hardship, we may wonder where God is, and seeking joy can feel next to impossible. I would like to offer a few thoughts that perhaps will be helpful;
  • Look for a tiny thing to be thankful for each day. Gratitude helps shift our focus from our circumstances to something positive.
  • When things seem next to impossible, admit this to the Lord and ask Him for guidance. He cares and can handle any of our struggles.
  • In Scripture, Jesus gives us messages of joy in the following verses from John 15:9-11 "As the Father has loved Me, so have I loved you. Now remain in My love. If you keep my commands, you will remain in My love, just as I have kept my Father's commands and remain in His love. I have told you this so that My joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete."
  • Listening to uplifting music can bring joy. I often listen to Dappy T Keys YouTube Channel he offers simple, inspirational piano music. As I write this blog post, I'm listening to his channel. 😊
Let us pray together:

Dear Heavenly Father,
We are looking to seek joy when things in our lives are a struggle. We thank You for Your love and help us to remain in Your love and keep Your commands. We thank You that Your joy is in us, and our joy is complete in You.
In Jesus Name we pray,

Amen

With love,
Patty

Sharing My Vacation Thoughts

I will be the first to admit that I'm not very good about taking vacations I tend to be more of a home-body.
Yet, I know time away is good for the soul. My three daughters planned a fantastic trip to Nashville with the four of us. We enjoyed the sites and sounds of the city and went to see the Alan Jackson concert.
Our time together was a blessing, and I will forever be thankful for the experience.
In the photo to the left, I'm sitting on the front porch of where we stayed.
How about you, are you someone that likes to travel? If so, feel free to share your favorite destination.  I would love to hear from you.

Patty

Resting In God's Promises (A Monthly Series #13)

Resting in God's promises is an ongoing project, and the introduction can be found in this post: God's Promises.
God's Promise-God is a faithful God, keeping His covenant of love to a thousand generations.
"Know therefore that the LORD your God is God; He is the faithful God, keeping His covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love Him and keep His commandments." Deuteronomy 7:9

God has given us a covenant that is a spiritual agreement of love that He is a faithful God who loves us.

Dear Heavenly Father,
We come to You in thanksgiving for Your promises. Help us to understand Scripture and to rest in Your faithfulness and love.

In the name of Jesus, we pray,
Amen

With love,
Paty
