Father's Day 2021

Today, we celebrate Father's Day. A holiday that  Sonora Smart Dodd founded. Her mother died in childbirth after the sixth child leaving her father William Smart to raise the family. She appreciated all her father did for their family. So while listening to a sermon on Mother's Day, she wanted to have a day to honor fathers as well. Through her efforts over several years, Father's Day was proclaimed a national holiday in 1966 by President Lyndon B. Johnson.
I want to take time to honor my father, who at the age of 89 is still cutting branches off of trees, watering flowers for my mother, and reading everything he can on living a healthy lifestyle.
My heart goes out to those of you who no longer have your father here on earth, or if your father is ill, or if you are unable to be with your father for various reasons. I do understand to some degree the feeling of loss on Father's Day. The father of my children, Paul, is no longer here. In grief, we miss our loved ones every day, not just on a holiday. This shows the love we have for them.
Feel free to share a memory of your father if he is here on earth or if he is no longer here, or if you are missing the father of your children. I would love to hear from you. We can recall memories and still be present with those around us.

With love,
Patty
